Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Officers say they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then found many other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report initial examinations show the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; authorities are presently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials said they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A high-ranking political figure said the incident left him without words and required to be solved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, referring to the death of nine victims by a shooter focusing on residents of migrant background in February 2020.
