The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel debuts on Prime Video soon, and audience theories has been rampant.
The first season introduces a diverse group of personalities living within Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds accompanied by songs detailing their conflicts, and establishes heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 vary widely, but certain threads recur frequently: Could Angel Dust escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" affecting Alastor the Radio Demon? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with audience demands as the main goal," the showrunner stated earlier this year. "But I feel like me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That could imply viewers have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how quickly season 2 moves, and how many of what they're anticipating happens this season.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we get some incredible disclosures, some fascinating backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about the upcoming season — particularly in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a few fans make a prediction grid about the new season," she says. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've actually done a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on Prime Video on October 29.
